The story behind Care Capital Management

In 1970 Clyde L. Cressler, RPh, bought his first pharmacy in Meadville, Pennsylvania. This was the beginning of an exciting career in the health care arena. During the 70’s and 80’s, Clyde and his partner, father- in- law, Vernon R. Moore owned 10 retail stores and an institutional pharmacy. They developed the use of the name Care into their entities with Care Apothecary being institutional, which filled prescriptions for nursing homes and prisons. CressCare Medical grew out of the institutional supply end in the 70’s to become a DME business with his son, Todd L. Cressler, CEO , in 1994 to the present time. In 1989 Clyde bought his father-in-law’s interest and expanded to operate three Care Apothecaries, located in Meadville, Newport, and Allentown, Pa. with one retail store, Cressler’s Drug, in Sandy Lake, Pa.

With the changing pharmacy environment, Clyde decided to get back into retail pharmacy in 1992, buying his first Medicine Shoppe in Huntingdon, Pa. Now in 2007, he owns and operates 16 Medicine Shoppe pharmacies, 4 in Binghamton NY, and 12 in Pennsylvania. He still has ownership with regional hospitals in his Care Apothecary in Meadville, Pa. In 1998 he found the need to start a company to manage his entities, and that is how Care Capital Management has its beginning.

Care Capital Management started in an office at the home of Clyde, with Dan Brown, CFO, Katy Black, accounting, and his wife , Carol Cressler, who is active in the business. In 2000, it was time tomove into larger quarters, at 1800 Linglestown Road, Suite 103,Harrisburg, Pa. 17110. We now have a management staff of eleven team members. Bob Ziegler, Director of Operations has been with us in external operations of The Medicine Shoppe’s since 2001. Helen Craigo joined our team in 2002, working with our central management system and she is Director of Internal Operations. January of 2005, we hired Richard Smiga, RPh, as our Vice President of Operations. Rich has had 22 years experience in the pharmacy environment and is a valued team member to help lead our company forward with Clyde as Chairman of the Board and Todd Cressler as President. Carol Cressler is also an active member of the Board of Directors.
